Lions vs Texans

After a last minute loss to the Green Bay Packers last week, the Detroit Lions were really reeling back on their playoff hopes, this week was a must win. They were looking at a season where they needed to win the rest of their games in order to have a shot at the wild card spot in the playoff bracket. This weeks matchup with against the Houston Texans, the leader of the AFC division, and surely a diificult opponent. The Lions got on the board early when Mikel Leshoure ran in a touchdown from 2 yards out. The scores split in the second quarter, with each team scoring a pair of touchdowns. First, the Texans' Arian Foster rushed in a touchdown from 6 yards out. The Lions responded with a 5-yard touchdown run from Mike Foster. Houston's Owen Daniels then caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Matt Schaub. The Lions' Calvin Johnson then caught a 22-yard touchdown pass. After halftime, Detroit's Jason Hanson kicked a 46-yard field goal. Houston responded with a 81-yard touchdown rush by Justin Forsett, and tied it up yet again with a 45-yard field goal by Shayne Graham. This touchdown was highly controversial by Forsett because he was clearly tackled. The referees let the play go and Head Coach Jim Schwartz for the Lions threw his challenge flag on accident which was illegal. Therefore, the play could not be reviewed and the touchdown stood. In the fourth quarter, the Lions took the lead back with a 23-yard touchdown run by Joique Bell, but Houston tied it back up with a 1-yard run by Arian Foster inside the 2-minute warning to take it to overtime. After a pair of turnovers and missed field goals by each team, Houston's Shayne Graham kicked the game-winning field goal from 32-yards out. It was the Lions' ninth consecutive Thanksgiving loss. Unfortunately this game was lost in part to a idiotic call by the referees. This took away the Lions playoff hopes and really crushed my hopes for this season!

Lions vs Packers

After a tough loss to the Minnesota vikings last week, the Lions hosted their NFC North Division rivals the Green Bay Packers. They needed to get back on track after the loss because their playoff hopes were dwindling. It was to be a tough match up for the Packers were the NFC North champions of last year and currently lead the division. The only scoring play of the first quarter was when Detroit's Jason Hanson kicked a 30 yard field goal. The Packers got on the board in the second quarter when Jermichael Finley caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers. The Lions responded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Mikel Leshoure. In the third quarter, the Packers M. D. Jennings intercepted a Matthew Stafford pass and ran it back 72 yards for a touchdown. The Lions responded with a Calvin Johnson 25-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. The Lions scored their final points in the fourth quarter when Jason Hanson kicked a 27 yard field goal. The Packers then scored a touchdown when Randall Cobb caught a 22 yard pass from Aaron Rodgers, and capped off their win with a 39 yard field goal by Mason Crosby. Thus the lions lost 24-20. It was a close game and the Lions found a way to hand the Packers a victory. The Lions definitely need work on closing games when they have the lead. This had happened to them multiple times now and is going to being their season to an end pretty quickly.

Lions vs Vikings 2

Lions are now on a 2 game winning streak. In week 10, the Lions traveled to Minneapolis to play their NFC North rival the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota took an early lead when Jarius Wright caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Christian Ponder, and added more points when Blair Walsh kicked a 58 yard field goal. In the second quarter, the Lions scored their only points of the first half when Jason Hanson scored a 41-yard field goal. The Vikings responded with a 23-yard field goal by Blair Walsh. After halftime, the Blair Walsh kicked another 23-yard field goal. The Lions responded with a Brandon Pettigrew caught a 16-yard touchdown yard pass from Matthew Stafford. In the final quarter, Minnesota's Kyle Rudolph caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Christian Ponder, and Adrian Peterson ran the ball in for a two-point conversion. The Lions responded when Titus Young caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. The Vikings added to their lead when Adrian Peterson completed a 61-yard touchdown run, then Blair Walsh scored a 33-yard field goal. The Lions scored the game's final points when Calvin Johnson caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. Stafford led the game with 349 passing yards, 207 of which came from Calvin Johnson. Mikel Leshoure led the Lions rushing attack with a mere 43 yards. This loss will definitely reduce the Lions chances of reaching the playoffs. Hopefully they can regather themselves and play on.

Lions vs Jaguars

Finally, after playing close games all year long, the Detroit Lions finally dominated an entire game running and throwing all over the Jacksonville Jaguars. After a scoreless first quarter, the Lions Mikel Leshoure ran in three consecutive touchdowns, from 7, 1, and 8 yards out respectively to take a 21-point lead going into halftime. Leshoure became the first Lions rusher to score three touchdowns in the first half. After a scoreless third quarter, Detroit's Jason Hanson kicked a 42 yard field goal. The Jaguars finally got on the board when Micheal Spurlock caught a 5 yard touchdown pass from Blaine Gabbert. They then completed a two-point conversion when Blaine Gabbert completed a pass to Rashad Jennings. The Lions responded with a 10-yard touchdown run from Joique Bell. Jacksonville scored the final points of the game with a 6-yard touchdown catch from Blaine Gabbert to Justin Blackmon; they again went for a two-point conversion, but were unsuccessful this time. Stafford threw for a total of 285 yards, no touchdowns but also no interceptions. Joique Bell led the rushing yards column with 73 yards and one touchdown, but Leshoure dominated the short yardage situations pounding in three total touchdowns. This was a much needed win for the Lions who brought their record back to .500 at 4-4. This puts them in a great spot to continue to sneak their way into the playoffs.

Lions vs Seahawks

In week 8, the Lions hosted the Seattle Seahawks. After losing a close game to the Chicago the previous week on Monday night football, the Lions were looking to come out and play a complete game. The Seahawks have been a surprise team this year defeating formidable opponents such as Green Bay and New England. Seattle started the scoring with a 23-yard field goal by Steven Hauschka. The Lions then took the lead when Ryan Broyles caught a 6 yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. In the second quarter, the Seahawks scored 2 consecutive touchdowns: first with a Marshawn Lynch 77-yard run, then with a Sidney Rice 9-yard catch from Russell Wilson. The Lions responded with a Titus Young 46-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. After a scoreless third quarter, the Lions took the lead back when Matthew Stafford ran in a touchdown from 1 yard out. Seattle went up by 3 points with a Zach Miller 16-yard catch from Russell Wilson. The Lions' Titus Young then scored the game-winning touchdown with 1-yard pass from Matthew Stafford. This win was a great confidence booster for the Lions and helped their cause to fighting for that wild card playoff spot. There is a lot of work ahead to be done, but with focus on the details, the Lions have a great chance at turning the season around. The next test for the Lions is against the Jacksonville Jaguars who have been struggling this year to play full games. The Detroit Lions need to come out and win the game handily!

Lions Vs. Bears

Hello Class!
Sorry for the delay on my posts, but we haven't been missing much from the Lions performances as of lately. This past monday night, the Lions squared off against the Chicago Bears in a prime time showdown. Last year the Lions were set up on a Monday Night game for the first time since 1999 and they shined running wild all over the Chicago Bears. This year was a different story though. The Bears assembled a dominant team over the offseason adding a new young wide receiver and also All Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall. With running back Matt Forte and Quarterback Jay Cutler controlling the offense, it is a force to be reckoned with. The Lions, coming off an exciting win over the Philadelphia Eagles, were up to the challenge in front of them. Chicago's defense was to much for the Lions high powered offense, or so its called this night holding them to only 7 points total in the game. Chicago also struggled on offense too only scoring 13, which is drastically lower than their season average. The Lions defense came to play. If only we could've had the offense play a full game, we could have stolen this game away from the Bears and won as the underdogs. I think our team this season has a lot of potential, but have just underperformed. Hopefully next week they can put together multiple successful offensive drives and score some points!

Lions BYE Week

Good Day Clasmates,
We have some good news this week. The lions didnt lose a game this weekend, this is duie to the fact that they didnt play one. This was their bye week that each team in the NFL gets. 1 per 16 game regular season. So i thought id take this opportunity to give my thoughts about the team and the restructuring that i believe they should do. I'll start on the offensive side of the ball, directing my attention towards the offensive line. I think we are very week in this area though others dont. Our long time left tackle, Jeff Backus, is falling under the radar of good tackles. I think it would benefit us very much to either cut him from the team and let our new draft pick, Riley Reiff, have a shot at the job. Backus last week allowed 2 sacks that were direcly his fault. These came at critical times as the lions were trying to mount a comeback against the Minnesota Vikings. We have one outstnading guard in Rob Sims, but his opposite, Steven Peterman, has played attrocious the last 2 years and needs to be cut. If we were goinjg to utilize Backus anymore, i think it should be as a replacement for Peterman. Also, our long time center, Dominic Raiola, is god awful. He is a great leader and speaker, but can not lead by example anymore because he gets blown off the ball by these new monstrous defensive tackles. We need to draft a new center to lead and direct our offensive line to an elite status. Until then, we will always fall short of being considered a dominant offense. On the defensive side of the ball, it is blunty obvious that our secondary looks like that of a high school team. We have a decent safety in Louios Delmas, but he cant stay healthy throughout an entire season, so we pay him to be hurt and sit the bench. CUT! I think we could find a much better safety in free agency and probably save a lot of money that we are paying for Delmas to produce nothing. The only other real change id like to see on our defense is a better middle linebacker. Tulloch is an excellent player, but he is to small to be a dominant linebacker. He is not feared by any running back and will continue to be ran over always aloowing the running backs to get extra yards. These are just my thoughts on the restructuring i believe the lions need to tend too!

Lions Vs. Vikings

Good Day Classmates!
Well in reality it wasnt a good day for the Detroit Lions as they played a pitiful game against the Minnesota Vikings, losing 20-13. After last weeks special teams collapse against the Tennessee Titans, you would figure that the Lions would go back to practice working very hard on their "special teams". Well, Minnesote showed everyone that the Lions special teams were very "special". The Lions won the coin toss and deferred to receive the ball in the second half and gave the ball to the Vikings first. As the kickoff reached retrurner, Percy Harvin, you could already see the alley open up for a long gain. And would'nt you know, Harvin shoots through the gap and explodes for a 105 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The crowd begins to boo as they see how juch "work" the Lions must have put into their special teams over the week. This was only the beginning of their demise though. The offense just looked slow and very out of rythm. Stafford was throwing decent but the receiving core could not catach anything. I think if a cold managed to find its way to them they would probably drop that too. Impressive to say the least, not! The only sound aspect of the game for the Lions was the game paly of the defensive front 7. Though they let Adrian Peterson run wild, they tightened up in the redzone and only allowed 6 points to be scored by the Vikings offense. At the beginning of the second half, the Lions received the ball and had a quick 3 and out. They punted the ball and would'nt yyou know, the Vikings returned it over 60 yards to the house. This was the 4th touchdown allowed by the Lions special teams in the last 2 games. They have given up 9 touchdowns to their oppents defense and special teams so far this year. Needless to say, its the highest in the NFL so far. Detroit better straighten out their fundementals or its going to be one hell of a long year!

Good day classmates!
It was an exciting weekend of football though it ended in heartbreak as the Detroit Lions lost for the second week in a row to the Tennessee Titans. The game started off extremly slow with the Lions looking pitful on both sides of the ball. They had no answer for Jake Locker, the Titans quarterback. He had a career day throwing for 350+ yards and 2 touchdowns. Although the Lions had no answer for Locker, the Lions held Tennessee's star running back, Chris Johnson, to only 24 yards on 14 carries. This was an impressive hold after being trampled by St. Louis's and San Francisco's running backs in weeks 1 and 2. The Lions had a very slow start on offense in the first half, but exploded in the second half scoring 32 points, 14 of which came within the last 18 seconds of the game. While the Lions were driving with only minutes left and down by a touchdown, tight end Brandon Pettigrew was stripped of the ball and the Tennessee defense returned it for a touchdown. This had seemingly been the demise of the Lions for this game as quarterback Matthew Stafford was injured trying to chase down the defender returning the touchdown. Back up quarterback, Shaun Hill, who was a previous starting quarterback in the NFL, entered the game poised and ready to lead the Lions on there last attempt to with. Down by 14 with only a minute and 30 seconds left, Hill drove the filed and threw a strike to Calvin Johnson for a touchdown with only 18 seconds remaing. Doown by only one touchdown now the Lions had to recover an onside kick in order to have any shot at winning this game. Jason Hanson sent the kick away and it took a high bounce. Lions Ball! Safety Amari Speive recovers the onside kick and gives the Lions one last hope. With only 4 seconds left Hill takes the snap. After scrambling around for a few seconds he hails the ball 50 yards down the field to the endzone where a Tennessee defender bats the ball down. But Wait! Wide receiver Titus Young dives under the ball, catching it and scores the game tieing touchdown! The Lions had came back and sent the game to overtime. The Lions came up short though, failing to convert a 4th and short play giving the Titans the victory for the game. It was a valiant effort by our Lions, but hopefully we can come out next week with a win over the talented Minnesota Vikings.

Detroit Lions Vs. San Francisco 49'ers

Good Day Classmates!
Sorry about the delay for this weeks blog. Last nights game between the San Francisco 49'ers and the Detroit Lions was a definite thriller but ended in heartbreak, for myself and other Lions fans, as they fell to the 49'ers twenty seven to nineteen. Detroit came out to a pretty slow start on offense, struggling to gain any yards against a very tough and disciplined San Francisco defense. Matthew Stafford definitely had his work cut out for him, only throwing for a measly tow hundred and thirty yards and the team only rushed for eighty two yards throughout the game. Our only scoring during the first half of the game came from the foot of Jason Hanson, our all time leading scorer for the team, knocking in two field goals giving six points heading into the locker room. San Francisco however got off to a quick start with their quarter back, Alex Smith, connecting with tight end, Vernon Davis, for a touchdown in their opening drive. That was then followed up with a Frank Gore rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter giving us a halftime score of fourteen to six. Things didn't get to much better for the Lions in the second half and the 49'ers defense still had our offense on lock down. San Francisco added to quick field goals to their score making it twenty to nine after the Lions responded back with a quick field goal as well. But Alex Smith sealed the Lions fate with a touchdown strike yet again to Vernon Davis when the lions had to stop them with any chance of winning the game. The Lions though did try to make the game interesting by scoring a quick touchdown and trying for an onside kick to score and tie the game up with a two point conversion. They failed on their onside kick attempt, thus ending t any attempt to comeback and send the game into overtime.

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone had a chance to root for our home state Lions today as they beat the St. Louis Rams 27-23 today. It was a very up and down game as the Lions came out hot marching the ball right down the field, knifing through the Rams defense like butter. A critical mistake by Matthew Stafford in the red zone brought their first drive to a halt though when Stafford threw an interception inside the five yard line. The Lions defense however played a very sound game only allowing two hundred and fifty one total yards and fourteen total first downs throughout the game. Stafford struggled in the first half throwing three interceptions that led to thirteen of the Rams twenty three points today. As they second half of the game progressed though, Stafford shined and connected with Kevin Smith for a touchdown that gave the lions the lead with only seconds remaining on the game clock. Today's game was a real nail biter that kept me on the edge of my seat, but in the end, the Lions Prevailed! Next I will list some of the statistic from the game. Matthew Stafford threw forty eight passes completing thirty two of them for three hundred and fifty five yards. He also, as stated before, threw one touchdown. Kevin Smith was the leading rusher in the game today running for sixty two yards on thirteen attempts with one touchdown. The Lions all pro wide receiver, Calvin Johnson, led the team in receiving yards with one hundred and eleven on six catches. Unfortunately he was unable to find the end zone, but I am sure that will make him hungry for a big day next week in the Lions bout with the San Francisco 49'ers. This will be a very heated rematch from last year when the 49'ers ended the Lions five game winning streak. Hopefully we can come through next week with a victory!

Hello everyone,
I will be doing my blogs about the 2012 Detroit Lions football team. Ever since I was a little kid I've loved football and I took a certain interest into the Lions. As most of you may know, the past 13 years for the team have been very disappointing. We have gone through many head coaches and a ridiculous amount of quarterbacks in an attempt to transform the losing atmosphere that surrounds the organization into that of a winning one. This started to begin when the Lions drafted Calvin Johnson, wide receiver, who is now the face of out franchise. His dominance on the field and inspiring actions off it brought a new sense of leadership to the team. Soon after drafting Calvin Johnson, the Lions began to piece together an extremely talented team with players such as Matthew Stafford, Ndamukong Suh, Louis Delmas, and many others to try and revitalize what was a proud franchise. For the first time in 12 years the Lions made the NFL postseason after  an impressive 10-6 regular season. Though they have made huge strides in their pursuit of a Superbowl Championship, many improvements are to be made for the Lions team to achieve this goal. As the year goes on, I will blog about the positives and negatives of each game. Hopefully we can look forward to a very successful season full of exciting, hard hitting plays and most importantly a lot of wins! I look forward to reading any comments I may receive on my blogs.
